Upward Bound is a college prep program for first-generation college students. We want our students to be academically, socially, and financially ready for the first day of college and all the days that follow. BRHS is one of ten target schools in the Alaska Upward Bound program headquartered at UAF.
What we offer
During the school year we hold a study hall exclusive to Upward Bound students and meet monthly to work on projects related to high school academics, higher education, and technology. Based on their attendance, students receive up to $40 per month, which is paid out once a quarter.
In the summer, the state-wide Upward Bound program holds camps at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. There, students are exposed to college life by taking classes, navigating the campus, living on a budget, and making new friends.
Upward Bound coordinators are Meg Shaw and Laura Tolliver.
